The rhythmic churning off the tumble-dryer echoed through the small house as the first rays of daylight began streaming through number one Tulip Drive. The bubbling of the kettle added to this soft noise and it wasn’t long before a tall woman padded into the room.
Her blonde hair was tousled and there were dark circles under her shining blue eyes, contrasting with the almost white skin of her face and the pale pink of her lips. She took the kettle and began pouring herself a cup of tea.
She’d been up almost all night, after her trip to the hospital she’d taken Sacora back to her home and put her in her spare room, she’d then routed out some age old dog food from her cupboard. It was pure luck she’d arrived when she did, the girl wouldn’t have lasted much longer.
She took a long sip of her tea and ran a hand through her hair again, closing her eyes for a moment. The doctor had told her all of Sacora’s medical history, Saffron had said she was family... she wouldn’t have been able to take her home otherwise and then Sacora would have been stuck in a shrink and she would’ve hated that.
The girl had been through so much pain and it made Saffron feel queasy, the doctor had told her that if she’d been a couple of minutes later, it would have been to late to save her from her fate.
Saffron walked back into her spare room to the chair she had spent the whole night in, looking at Sacora, her dog curled up beside her, its blue eyes closed in a deep sleep...much to Saffron’s disapproval.
Sacora’s bandages were almost the same colour as her skin and her lips had a slightly bluish tinge to them. Her dark hair was spread around her and beads of sweat stood out on her forehead.
Saffron wiped them delicately away with a damp cloth, she knew there was a fight going on in the girl’s body...she had to be under constant watch, she was vulnerable to infection in her state and the last thing Sacora needed was a full on fever.
She placed a hand on the girl’s cheek; it was warmer now, thank god, but not to warm. Saffron had placed her under a soft white duvet and the doctor had changed her into some pyjamas.
Saffron had intended to get some sleep herself but had found the possibility of Sacora dying in her sleep terrifying, so she had sat up all night beside her, wrapped in her dressing gown and with thick slippers on her feet, waiting for the girl to wake and refusing to close her tired eyes.[/center]

Gasping, through darkness...through nothingness...but all that was fading...all the numbness was gone...adn the pain was returning...she could feel the pain...but was too weak to do anything about it.
She was distantly aware of Shattered, curled up beside her. She blinked, thinking how she had locked the dog up. Suddenly she shot strait upward, wincing. Her ice blue eyes flashed wildly. "Where?" she muttered, moving her arm to cover her aching hand.
She gasped in pain when she moved her arm, confused she blinked at the bandages, her eyes narrow. Oh... she thought, blankly. Her expression hardened and she glanced around the room, suddenly realizing that she was not alone.
She stared, blankly at the blonde actress. What the... She was confused...so far what she was understanding was that she had cut herself...and somehow both she and her dog had ended up in someone else's house. She blinked at her, still not understanding. I must have been out for awhile... she thought...she didn't remember waking up...at any point...but she must have...she assumed that she'd been to the hospital...and that they'd make her wake up before they left.
Shattered's ears perked up as Sacora started to move. His tail waved tentively. She blinked, till trying to understand. Why do I feel... she paused. High?
Not really sure what she was supposed to say, or do Sacora she started at her. "Um...Thank you?" she said softly, her voice sounding like a question.

Saffron gave a weak smile and shook her head as she watched her, trying to fight back the tiredness that was overcoming her “Try not to move” she said quietly and got up and waked away.
As she reached outside to the kitchen she slid down the cupboard and out her head in her hands, her blonde hair falling round her pale arms as she took long shuddering breaths, fighting tears that were overcoming her.
She was tired, that’s what was causing it, and the immense relief of Sacora waking up was just amazing. Her chest heaved and she closed her eyes, letting crystal tears fall to the wooden floor beneath her.
This is stupid, she thought, Sacora will be able to hear me and the last thing she needs is someone crying. She got to her feet and wiped her blue eyes that were swimming with tears furiously.
She grabbed onto a cup of tea for her and placed it next to her “You lost a lot of blood” she explained “You can eat later, once you’ve woken up properly”
She looked at Sacora, the girl’s gaze had hardened and she couldn’t help but feel slightly hurt “I know what you did, I got the address from a friend and I came to see you.”
She paused, “No one answered, all I could hear was your dog so I climbed in through a window and brought you out with him to the hospital”
She paused, “I had to lie...say I was a family member, they told me everything, well almost. But it was either that or being stuck under 24 hour watch and being sent to a shrink”
She bowed her head sadly, “I knew you would’ve hated that so I brought you to my home”

"They all knew me...the only reason they let you take me out of that hospital is because they also knew that a srink wouldn't work..." murmered Sacora softly. Then she looked at Saffron. "You look tired..." she observed. "You don't litterally mean 24 hours?" she murmered, looking down at Shattered. She was stroking the dog's fur, deep in thought.
Sacora blinked around the room, wondering how Saffron would reply. She blinked, and started to think of Saffron's family...not that she knew much about them...it didn't sound like she hadany left. She sighed softly, feeling numb. She wondered how much pain medication she had recieved...and how long the numbness would last.
Shattered looked up and licked Sacora's hand gently. The slobber jolted her out of her thinking. "Yuck..." she said. "Dumb dog..." Then she sighed again. "No...you're not dumb...you're actually really smart."

Saffron smiled weakly “Yeah about that actually” she admitted, “I couldn’t sleep, I thought you were going to die on me Sacora” she said seriously.
She looked at the bedside table beside her and noticed that there was a photo there. It was the only nice one of her and her father, she had been five and they’d one for a holiday on the beach. They were laughing and looking toward the camera, their smiles forever frozen.
Times had been different then, before he’d got nasty. But he’d left her for a small time, before coming back again and looking after her...not that he did that well though.
She smiled at the dog “I wouldn’t have known if it wasn’t for him” she admitted, “You could have been asleep...dog’s don’t howl like that when their masters are just sleeping”

Sacora smiled softly. "He likes to take care of me..." she murmered, stroking him absent-mindedly. "But what would it matter to you if I died or not?" she asked softly.
She glanced at the picture...something abou it bothered her, she narrowed her eyes, but her brain still wasn't working. She shook her head. "No thinking for awhile..." she joked softly. Then she glanced at Saffron, their same ice blue eyes meeting. "I'm still sorta confused...but thank you..." she murmered softly.
((Sry tis short...is brain dead))

“When I met you, I don’t know...I just felt sort of maternal” she grinned ruefully, “I felt I had a responsibility that I should look after you, make sure you didn’t do anything rash”
She sighed and put a hand on the bed “I’ve had no family for years, only friends. When I see someone in trouble I help them. They normally keep in touch...they’re the ones who ask me for help in the first place.
But you Sacora are different, you’re strong and aware of your actions...you try so hard to stop yourself but the pain doesn’t stop. You think it’s your only way out. My mother died when I was born and my sister” her eyes filled with tears “My sister killed herself when I was four; she was ten at the time”
She looked at the picture and glared “Then my father left, I was alone and when he came back he was terrible” she looked back at Sacora, “I don’t want you to have any more pain. I don’t want you to end up like my sister”

Sacora laughed to herself. "I was a mistake in the first place...a mistake that ended up killing my mother...the foster care lasted until I was four...when my father randomly appeared and bought me a house..." she trailed off. "After half a year he was in jail...for life...and I've been alone..." she glanced at Shattered. "Well...not totally alone...ever since..."
She stared at Saffron. "You're a good person...unlike most people in the world...but that doesn't mean that I totally trust you...I mean...in the past...everyone has left me...so what's stopping you? I mean...I'm just some girl you feel sorry for...in a few years you'll forget all about me...just like everyone else."
She sighed. "Listen to me...I'm a horrible person...you know what...forget I said anything..."

Saffron sighed lightly and got up from where she was sitting without a word and walked out of the room again, her blonde, untamed hair falling down her back. Walking into the kitchen, she slowly rummaged around in the fridge, deep in thought.
There was something about Sacora that wade her feel slightly uneasy, their fathers had been like each other...it was almost like they could be sisters or something, she couldn’t help but laugh at that. She pulled a plastic food bag filled with soup from the freezer and poured it into the saucepan, turning on the stove.
She began to hum as she stirred and the volume grew and grew until she was singing, her voice of pure magical notes filling her home. She’d always thought of becoming a singer...but she didn’t really need to. Also and actress and a singer would never be left alone.
When the soup was ready she poured some into a bowl, placed it on a tray with some bread and butter and brought it back into the rooms “Eat” she said softly, “You need to get your strength up and it’ll help clear your head”

Sacora-
The young, troubled girl didn't bother with arguing, she knew how that would end...so she took the bread and started nibbling on it, slowly.
After a few minutes, she set it back down and stared at Saffron. "You have a pretty voice you know..." she murmered, thoughtfully. "Hm...actress...singer...those two...you'd never be left alone would you?"
She looked away then slowly sipped at the soup, both tired and brooding. Something was nagging in the back of her brain...something she'd probably remember in a few hours. She cursed in her head.
She yawned suddenly and Shattered's head jolted upward. She slowly pulled the bread apart and lightly threw a piece at Shattered, who instantly caught it. Sacora chuckled softly. "He's never missed...not once...not anything..." She words meant more than Saffron would know.

Saffron smiled “Thanks, but even now I’m hardly left alone” she watched the girl eat and felt so good that she was getting better now. The colour was returning to her cheeks and her lips had lost that bluish tinge at last.
“Dogs are smarter than people give them credit for” she commented, not bothering to care that the dog had eaten food Sacora needed. “My friend bought him some dog food, it’s in the kitchen for him” she owed James big time for that, he’d left Camellia to get it this morning.
The sound of the tumble dryer stopped, she got up and pulled all the washing out. The clothes she’d been wearing earlier were now clean, they’ been covered in blood before. She’d got several looks at the hospital, she’d turned up with a huge black dog at her heels and a girl in her arms and the both of them covered in blood.
Saffron had had a shouting match with the receptionist about Shattered, they’d thought it was the dog that had attacked Sacora and tried to take him out and them to the vets to be put to sleep. Saffron hadn’t let them touch him, neither had Shattered, he’d snarled a lot and scared several people so they were let through fast.
She collected the clothes and threw them onto her bed in her room before closing the door and coming back in, she didn’t want to leave Sacora alone for a moment now.

Sacora rolled her eyes, she knew exactly what Saffron was doing. "Honestly...it's not like you have to watch me every waking moment...I mean...you'll know if I try to do anything...Shattered will start bark like it's raining fire..."
She sighed. "Speaking of him I hope he hadn't been any trouble to you while I was out...he doesn't tend to like anyone but me...it's strange...but when I found him...he had been hurt to...I think he understands me..." She stroked the dog's back. "I think someone hurt him...then left him to die...I couldn't leave him in the rain..."
She trailed off, staring at the dog's fur. Then she smiled. "Little did I know I ended up saving my own little guardian...that's what he is to me...he's saved my sorry...um...butt..." she paused, not wanting to curse, like she usually did when she was alone. "...More times than I can count..."
She turned to Saffron. "Have you ever had a dog?" she asked, trying to steer the subject in a slightly chessy, but less depressing subject.

“You haven’t given me the most security in thinking that” Saffron replied dryly, it was very different from her normal sweet and gentle tone, it was the first time she gently dropped the fact that Sacora had had her number for help if she had wanted it but had actually ignored it.
“He’s been no trouble” she said, her normal tone flooding though, mixed with amusement that she was trying hard not to curse, everyone did it and she’d been particularly bad up until the past few months.
She smiled “No, never had a pet. My father used to say they were below us and just sucked out money and gave diseases. I never believed him but I just haven’t got round to having one now”
She took a sip from her bowl of soup and watched Sacora; she wondered why on earth she’d done it. What would have been the point? She’d just be weakening herself and increasing pain. She sighed, that was a subject in which they’d never both understand each other in.

"At least you have some memory of your father...I saw mine once...that I remember. I went to the prison...curious...and he could already tell what I'd been doing. The only words he said to me were. "You look like your mother, it's both your bit.ches's fault that I'm in this da.mn hell-hole." I assume he blames, my mother dying...he thinks that by screwing her and creating me...it landed him in jail. She shook her head, confused. "Well he can think whatever he likes...as long as he doesn't get out...I'm afraid if he does that he might try to find me..."
She stared at Shattered. Then she once again changed the subject back to dogs, and acting. "I can understand how you'd be too busy...speaking of which...you have a job...which means you won't be able to keep an eye on me...therefore it's already a pointless effort."
There was only one way that Saffron could keep an eye on her...and it would never happen. There was no way she'd follow Saffron around all day. It wasn't that she didn't like Saffron, it was just that when you're with an actress, you get attention...and attention meant people...which Sacora definately didn't need. The last thing she needed was the public thinking she was Saffron's adopted daughter or something.

“I know” Saffron said quietly, “But sometimes I wish I didn’t” her blue eyes were filled with anguish and she blinked tiredly.
“Stop it,” she said finally “I’m trying to help you, can’t you see that! And you’re right; it is a pointless effort if you’re not going to try either.”
And with those words she swept from the room and into her own bedroom. She sat on her bed for a moment before getting up and walking into the bathroom.
A few moments later she emerged wrapped in a fluffy white towel with damp hair. She dried herself quickly and changed into a pair of jeans and a white t-shirt. She sat at her dressing table, brushing her hair thoughtfully before tying it up in a loose knot on top of her head.
She decided to give Sacora some time on her own, seeing as she couldn’t get her to talk. She neatly folded all of her clothes and put them in the right drawers, then she flopped onto her huge bed and grabbed her book and started to read
