The late afternoon sunlight beamed through the many trees and bushes and along the sunlit gravel track as the tall, thin, red haired figure of Stuart hauled it's way down the rocks. His hair was plastered to his head thanks to his dip in the river at the top of the mountains. His white shirt and grey shorts were soaked through as he leapt over the last boulder to the lake with a heavy sigh.

A barking broke the calm peaceful tranquility of the lake as four cavalier king charles spaniels raced forward, one black and tan, one white and tan, one solid tan and one with all three colours. The tan one bowled into the tri and if gave a sharp yap before retaliating "Milly, Ellie, Jack, Cinnie!" a voice of pure gold called and all four dogs turned, racing back to the figure coming over the hill. She had shoulder length strawberry blonde hair and dazzling blue eyes. Lucy bent down to greet the uncoming tornado that were her pets. It was then she noticed Stuart and stood up, wiping her jeans and avoiding his gaze. "Sorry" she said with a smile "I didn't mean to disturb you". The tri, Ellie, reached up and pawed at her owners leg and Lucy just bent to ruffle the little dogs long silky fur.

Stuart looked up and gave a warm smile, giving a polite nod of greeting to Lucy. 'Its nothing, honoustly,' he said with a smile, running his fingers through his long red hair shyly. 'Lucy isn't it?' he asked softly, looking up from his shoes to her, still smiling softly as he glanced back to the lake before at Lucy.

Lucy smiled, "Yes, Lucy Fox and you are..." she paused for a moment then her smile widened "Stuart Nevis" she flicked her strawberry blonde locks over her shoulder and watched him, wondering why on earth he was so wet. She pulled her coat closer around her shoulders, he must be freezing. Jack let out a small bark and hopped into the lake, followed by Milly, then Ellie. Cinnamon stood nervoulsy on the bank, her clean fur blowing in the gentle breeze. Lucy scooped her up in her arms and the little dog turned and licked her cheek. Lucy smiled as the three dogs swam about in circles, yapping in delight. "Never mind them, their bark's worse than their bite". As if to prove this, Ellie leapt from the water and jumped up at Stuart.

Stuart grinned, nodding as he knealed down to pat Ellie softly before standing up and looking at himself. 'Yeah, Sorry about being so wet, Fell in the river a little way up,' he said with a gesture to up the nearest mountain. Stuart smiled, taking his backpack off and throwing it onto the ground beside him.

Ellie wagged her tail enthusiastically and danced around her new friend, causing Lucy to laugh. She looked at Stuart, "You could have my coat if you want" she offered, it was cold at the moment and she didn't like to think of how cold he must be, "Or come back to my place, it's hectic with two puppies as well as this lot but I can manage to find you something or at least dry those clothes"
She noticed Cinnamon was shivering and pulled a dog coat out of her bag, she hated them but Lucy knew that Cinnie had to stay warm in order to look after her two puppies that would one day be sold onto familes. These dogs were her life and it was obvious that she showered love upon them.

Stuart smiled softly, shaking his head politly and holding up a hand. 'Thanks for the offer, but I'll be fine,' he said softly with a polite small bow, a grin across his face and he looked over to the lake with a gentle sigh. 'The ripples across the lake carry that of which we regret, while the leaves drift from the growing trees to send a soul into flight,' he said softly, thinking deeply.

Lucy smiled, raising her head from her dogs and quoting "Oh, drink again this river that is the taker away of pain, the giver back of beauty. In these cool waves, what can be lost? Only the sorry cost of the thing, not the thing itself." she ran a hand through her soft red hair and stood up "You have an interesting voice" she commented "I wonder what your singing voice like" she wondered aloud; she believe everyone could sing, it was just a question if they could sing well or not, and if they couldn't i was always possible for people to learn.

Stuart smiled, shaking his head deifiantly. 'I can't sing I assure you, Not that I've tried,' he said, looking at the dogs quickly before back at Lucy, brushing his red hair out of his eyes quickly before picking up his slightly wet pack. 'And I should probably be heading home, I've got to plan out where I'm going to take the high school students tomorrow, mabye you could come along and help me?' he said, gesturing to the less steep track over the other side of the lake with a kind smile.

"Nonsence, everyone can sing, it's just a question of learning to control it" and singing well or not Lucy said briskly, patting the soaking Jack ginglerly, she looked up and smiled, her tone of voice changing "I'd like that" she said quietly, her eyes shining, "I guess I know a lot of them anyway, those musical ones anyway"

Stuart gave a small smile, nodding. 'Alright, cool, I'll meet you here tomorrow then, around nien alright?' he said, brushing off the dirt from his pack before hauling it onto his back with a warm grin to Lucy. 'See you then,' he said brightly, giving her a small wave ebfore turning and starting at a slow jog back down towards the edge of the lake as he ran along it.

Lucy smiled "Sounds good" she called the dogs with one whistle, "I better get this lot back before the start shivering" she appologised, "Especially Cinnie, she has pups to think about, my homes a real mess I can tell you" her eyes glowed at the mention of the little balls of fluff around her house with their shining eyes and long furry tails.
