The night was cold and the pub smelt of smoke and beer as Owen sat at the bar, a large pint in his hand as he looked around, barely able to keep his eyes open after another night of no sucessful hook up's. He was thinking more tonight, of his fights with Gwen and the weird friendship between gwen and Jack and something deep inside him made him feel jealous when really he couldn't care less but to satisfy himself, he would have to find out.

Luke walked in, ignoring the looks from the girls he was getting, stupid, their only here for one thing he wanted to get so drunk he wouln't remember anything about himself. He could already see the look on Iris' face tomorrow morning, poor Iris, is sister tried so hard to pull him out of the spiral he was already trapped in. He could see his wife's face as she laid a hand on his arm, feel her breath on his neck.
I'm gonna make it bend and break (It sent you to me without wait) Say a prayer but let the good times roll In case god doesn't show (Let the good times roll Let the good times roll)
And I want these words to make things right But it's for wrongs that make the words come to life Who does he think he is? If that's the worst you got, better put your fingers back to the keys
He was trapped, and he'd never be free. He looked round, Luke looed older than he already was, twenty one was rather young to be a widower but that was the way it was in life. He sat down next to a tall man with short brown hair, he was always here Luke knew for only one thing. "Hi Owen" he growled, sitting on a chair at the bar "the usual, but make it a double" he yelled to the bartender over the music.
One night and one more time Thanks for the memories Even though they weren't so great He tastes like you Only sweeter One night and yeah, one more time Thanks for the memories Thanks for the memories See, he tastes like you Only sweeter
Been looking forward to the future But my eyesight is going back In these crystal balls It's always cloudy Except when you look into the past One night stand (One night stand)
The bartenderslammed down the drink an Luke payed, drinking as much as he could with one breath and wicing as the alcohol flowed through his veins. He finnished hisdrink switly and ordered another, this was going to be a long, hard night.

::.Mary-Ann.::
A lady slowly walked passed the entrance of the pub, her long, wavy brunette hair slunk over her shoulders and her almost fully blue eyes glittering brightly. She wore an apricot top with green vines swirling around it and long, blue denim jeans, and a silver necklace hung around her neck lightly, the night sky reflecting on its silver tone.
The song the pub played echoed in her ears, it didn't remind her of anyone, or anything, but it hit her like a stone. Sighing lightly, she gazed in the pub, looking at the men crowded around the bar, watching the girls dance around the ones who were obviously trying to hook someone up. She hadn't come to this place in a while...a month probably, she didn't mind the occasional, she didn't like it how people used it to just completely forget things, which looked like what some of the men were trying to do.
Deciding she had nothing better to do, she took a few steps into the pub, the mixed moods shattering the good one she had then, she felt the aroused mood of the girl and guy that pushed behind her, and the furious mood of the guy that glared at someone in the crowd in the middle of the place. She walked straight to the bar and sat away from everyone, where the mood was placid, ordering a small glass of white wine. She spun around on the seat and watched everyone, feeling more loose now that she had actually relaxed herself. Taking a small sip of the drink, she sighed and thought about her life before she came back here.

Luke looked around as a tall woman walked nervously into the crowed bar, there was something about her that just showed him she didn't want to be here, or was uncomfortable at the presence of everyone here. She was wearing an apricot top with just a hint of green from what he could see.
One night and one more time Thanks for the memories Even though they weren't so great He tastes like you Only sweeter One night and yeah, one more time Thanks for the memories Thanks for the memories See, he tastes like you Only sweeter
They say "I only think in the form of crunching numbers In hotel rooms Collecting patient lovers" Get me out of my mind Get you out of those clothes I'm a letter away From getting you into the mood Whoa
She went and sat down at the bar and ordered...a glass of wine. Luke couldn't help but smile, most people in here ordered something slightly stronge. He was surprised to find he wasn't drunk yet that was rare. The girl seemed more relaxed now and Luke leant over to her and said "You don't seem like the type we normally get in here" he wasn't hitting on her, that was ovios, his blue eyes glimmered with concern, there were so many people here only interesed in one particular thing.

She crossed her legs and and bobbed her foot to the beat of the song, she felt slightly like the odd one out, but it didn't bother her too much, after living with that police manager for a part of her life, she was use to it. "You don't seem like the type we normally get in here". She spun around on the seat, placing both her feet on the ground again, meeting the man in the eyes.
She could smell the alcohol he had already drank from his breath, but he didn't look drunk, so she wasn't too tight around him. She took another sip of the wine, gazing in his eyes still. "So I take it you are?" she said with a hint of mischief in her voice, it didn't take much for her to get drunk, only a few glasses of wine. Since it was only a small glass, she finished it off, moving around on the seat so she faced him, her long brown hair creeping over her shoulder. Her eyes glittered happily, she didn't know why she had come in here but she was glad to have some sort of company.

Luke watched her as her long hair fell over her shoulder "So I take it you are?" instead of him rising to the challenge his eyes clouded with sadness and grief "Yeah I come in here most days" he said quietly, ignorning the bartender who was giving him a look. He was alone here most days so to actually see him talking to someone was extremly rare. He looked back over to her and brushed a strand of dark brown hair from his clouded eyes but soon they cleared into their normal soft bluey green.
It suddenly clicked, he realised who she reminded him of and it hurt him deeply to realise it. But then, they weren't the same person. This girl had a flare of self confidence he hadn't seen before. But this was no place for her, he wanted to take her out of here and back to his home..no that didn't sound right, he wasn't one of those men. He just wanted to make sure she didn't get hurt. For the first tme, he was attracted to someone, jesus that was strange.
Suddenly he was glad she was here, and for that matr, that he was too. "So" he said after a long pause "What's your name, I'm Luke, Luke Simpkins" he gave her a little smile that, although he ever realised and took this into account, made the girls melt in a second. He offered her his hand to shake, he'd stay and talk for longer if she allowed it to be so.

Jay gave a little smile, glad he didn't take her words as a challenge. She could see his eyes...clouded with grief, she wondered what for. She thought about her family, she had lived most of her life without them, but the thought of them often made her sad, she wasn't willing to show that to Luke tonight. "I'm Mary-Ann, Mary-Ann Willoway. Please, call me Jay though, nice to meet you" she said with another smile, he had the most beautiful smile, she was glad she had come here now, she didn't have too many intensions on leaving in a hurry unless he did.
She looked at his hand for a moment, thinking wether to shake or give him a hug, I've only just met the guy! she thought with another smile, she took his hand ang gave it a gentle shake. "So where are you from? Havn't seen you around her much"

Jesus she Has a pretty smile Luke returned it but made his smile slightly smaller"Well hello Jay" he said kindly shaking her hand, gentle yet firm, like his personality. He looked around the crowded pub, he normally came here each evening and enjoyed drowning his sorrows in pools of alcohol but now the smoky atmosphere and raging music made him want to gag. He realized his sister was right, this really was a hell-hole.
He turned back to Jay, "Ah, I keep to myself" it was True, he never really talked to anyone apart from his sister and his wife (in his dreams) "I live in Goldway so it's only a short walk." he paused thoughtfully and said without thinking "I used to like it here but now I'm not so sure" he looked around "It's just so...urgh I don't know how to describe it" he sighed "I don't come here because I enjoy it or want to pick up some poor girl for the night"
He was finally showing his true colours to this girl he hardly knew. He was a gentleman and no mistaking it, he would fight for anyone f he was sure they were right and he would protect his loved ones as much as he could; it was at that point he felt his stomach drop, it hadn't helped much for his wife, she had been so young and innocent.... God he missed her so much. He closed his eyes for a moment,
'Let go Luke'
he heard her voice, I'm going mad he thought, keeping his gaze from Jay for a moment.
'Let go Luke, I know you will always love me, but let go' he felt her kiss him softly before he disappeared. He shivered but felt lie a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. He could now stop feeling guilty and get n with his life, god this was weird. He'd gone out for his normal drink but no he'd met a beautiful girl and his wife was talking from beyond the grave; best focus on Jay for now.

She nodded as he spoke, thinking that she too lived down Goldgate as he mentioned the beautiful place. ((OCC, I just checked something.....They are Neighbours! =P lol)) She smiled happily as he spoke, looking him carefully in the eyes, listening to his words carefully, Ok, first he says he comes here regulary....and now he says he does enjoy it....poor guy she thought, her mind wandering. She almost raised an eyebrow as he finished his sentance. "So why do you come here then?" she asked him softly, realising that he must be rather sensitive, the grief that was clouded in his eyes and the way he spoke cleared it out for her.
She took another sip of her drink, finishing it off and placing it further away from her to show the bartender that she had finished. She watched him close his eyes, as she waited for them to wake, concern filled her and clouded her eyes, what if he had passed out or something. Getting to her feet she placed a hand on his shoulder and gave it a light massage to see if he was responsive, if he had just fell into dreaming it was ok, but she wasn't willing to risk that. "Hey" she whispered quietly into his ear, C'mon now, dont go all quiet on me" she added with a small smile, her greenish blue eyes glittering brightly as she looked at him

Luke jumped as he felt her hand on his shoulder "Sorry" he said appologetically "My mind switched off for a moment" he sighed, trying to think how he could tell her why he had been here every day for the last three years; drowning his sorrows in a sea of drink and watching so many get on with their lives (including his sister) and actually enjoy it. He braced himself, he didn't really want pity or an Oh I am so sorry! Which really irratated him, it was like they were apologising for something they couldn't control or be responsible, she'd been his responsiblity and he'd betrayed her. Her really hadn't meant too...
"I've been coming here every evening for the last three years since...since my wife was killed"

Oh thats horrible! the thought wizzed through her mind, The poor guy. Her eyes clouded with grief for him, she didn't know what to say, she had her whole family killed, but to lose someone like that....would've been unbareable. With her hand still massaging his shoulder gently, she whispered...."I dont know what to say...."
Instead of saying something, she gave him a friendly hug, she hoped that he would change his mind about coming here....since he had for the last three years, that was going to be hard. Thinking about it, she decided that she wouldn't share her grief with his, as what had happened to him already seemed to have done alot of harm to him. I'm so sorry... she thought in her mind as she hugged him, a small tear coming to her eye, not just from his grief but thinking of her family too....

Luke hugged her tightly, glad for the comfort in his dark world that he had pulled himself into whilst his soul had been to weak to fight on. He put a hand up to her long brown hair and ran a hand down it; like himself he could feel a sense of loss about her that he couldn't explain. As he pulled away h sa a tear in her eye and wipied it away softly with one gentle finger "Hey" he murmured, their faces inches apart "WHat's the matter?"

She looked at him, her greeny blue eyes glimmering sadly, full of grief. A brim of tears lined her eyes, and she began to wonder if she could really, fully get over her loss in life. "Its nothing...." she whispered bravely, she wanted to push all this away, push away her grief, her loss, her life.
Bringing her gaze to meet his eyes, she could feel what had happened to him, it burnt off him like the embers that flew off an open fire. She closed her eyes and let herself just relax in his grasp, she couldn't think of anything better to do

Luke sighed and layed a hand on her cheek, the music was really starting to get to him and he found it really irratating. He noticed the tears forming around her eyes and knew at that moment she had also st at least one person close to her and the grief was still strong within her. He then realised he didn't want to be here anymore, he just wanted to be around her. "Do you want to come back to my place?" he aked her kindly with a small smile.

She opened her eyes again at his soft voice, they glittered with the tears that were at the brim. Even though she was in this state, she was still alert and taking in his words carefully. The glint of mischief shone in her eyes as she wondered what he actually meant, if it was just for some comfort, or for other, completely different reasons
Raising her head just a little, she gave a smalll nod, a small smile growing on her face as the grief was covered momentarily by happiness, to be with him brought light to her dull mood, so she was glad about it. Brushing her hand over his cheek as she did so, she brushed her hair gently behind her shoulders, waiting for him to lead the way to his place
