Supposed to be working

[Rose Brennan]

Gwen put down her pen and the sound of scribbling left the hub, she was supposed to be annalizing some old files whilst Sky was out but now she was at college it was just her in the hub. She'd come to see Jack but he'd been out, she didn't know where and se didn't want to pry. She would wait until Jack came back and then they'd talk; her heart began to thud as she pictured Jack standing in her office and her pulse rate quickened when she took some things away from the scene.

She shook her head, jesus Gwen foccus! She loved Jack with all her heart but right now she wasn't sure if it was love or lust that made her want to see him. She'd never been like this before, never expected that she'd have such adventures. Her cousin had been like her, only more so. She couldn't quite remember her name but knew that it started with and R and her second name began with a T, Roxanne? No, she'd been a bit more...how could she put it, never mind. But her cousin had been so much more adventurous than her, it must've been normal, she lived in London when Gwen was in Cardiff, the last time they'd seen each other was when they were 14. Her cousin had dyed her hair blonde whilst Gwen had stayed natural. She missed her cousin maybe she'd find her again one day. No...she remembered now, their name had been Tyler and they'd been killed in the battle of Canary Warf, her mum had been devestated. They had the last name as Sky maybe they were related somehow.

There, she gotten her mind off Jack, and here he comes again Gwen thought in defeat, flopping her head onto her desk in defeat. She straightened up and crossed her legs under the desk. Her dark hair fell about her shoulders, neatly styled, and her dark eyes were tired but happy. Now, all she had to do was get on with her work.

Jack walked quietly into the hub, giving a slight yawn as he streached his arms and moved inside, spotting Gwen almost at once and giving her a warm smile as he leap across a few steps and over to her. 'Hey Gwen, Sorry, I got caught up with a few old friends, alright, Sky's parents to be exact. Sky and I had been trying to get them to meet up again since they kind of got separated and yeah. I'll tell you now Rose was happier than anything,' he said with a grin, leaning on Gwen's Desk slightly as he watched her.

Gwen looked up and smiled "Sounds like fun" she thought for a moment and something clicked in her mind
.

"Rose chuck the ball!" Gwen yelled, running across the garden in a little red dress to a small girl with mousey hair dressed in jeans and a t-shirt.

"Fine!" Rose yelled, throwing the ball at her cousin and laughing as she dropped it.

The five year old Gwen looked definently at her older cousin "Hey no fair!"

Gwen sat there "My cousin was called Rose...Rose Marion Tyler"

Jack grinned, nodding. 'Yeah, She said when we were there, nearly made me choke I tell you,' he said with a grin. Jack glanced to the door to see if anyone else was coming but for once, everything was still. 'Her husband wasn't too surprised but really, what surprises a time traveller,' hes aid with a shrug.

'Haven't seen her since you here 14 eh? then you wouldn't know that she didn't die in canary wharf to my relief, just trapped in a parallel world. Married now to a time travelling alien and of course Sky who is really half time lord, and used to live in a small blue box that's larger on the inside.'

Gwen sat there, slight bemused "O...K, good old Rosey I guess" she smiled "That makes Sky and me related!" she grinned "Perfect way to boss her around" she winked at Jack and got back to her paperwork "How come we have so much of this" she said wih a sigh "I've been working all morning!"

Jack snorted, grinning from ear to ear. 'Don't try it, believe me, won't take orders from anyone, not even her parent,' he said with a slight yawn. 'You don't have to do it you know, just leave it for when you get bored, not that anything here really needs to be done,' he said softly, putting a hand on her shoulder and giving her a soft kiss on the cheek before turning and moving off towards his Office as the rest of the crew moved in from lunch.

Gwen smiled and turned to kiss him back as a shiver ran through her; but pulled away abruptley as the rest of the team wandered in, she blushed and brushed her dark hair from her eyes, why did it have to be secret? she wondered, Owen. That one name, he'd be jelous and things between him and the team were icy at the moment, to add this in would be chaos. She grinned and waved at everyone saying "I'll just take this to Jack" she gathered her papers together and scribbled something down on a piece of paper. She walked into his office, counting her blessings he was alone. She had her back to everyone else and leant down, looking as if she were putting something on his desk "Don't think you can kiss me without me wanting to do the same in return" she murmured, her face inches away from his and she gave him a soft and gentle kiss. She stood up and slipped him a note, before walking out again; her face deadpan so as to give nothing away.

Jack grinned, watching her leave as he looked at the note, giving a small nod to himself before he lent back on his chair, hanging his greatcoat on the hook before turning his gaze blankly to the roof, a small smile still across his face.

The day passed with not much else to do, Gwen had a mock fight with Tosh and a real one with Owen. All through the day she kept glancing at Jack with a small smile on her face. At the end of the day she sat on her office twiddling her pen, she closed her eyes and lant back in the chair "Hey Gwen"

Gwen shot up "Rose!" she squeaked and hurtled over

Jack stood at the door entrance with John, the two men grinning widely as Jack moved forward, a smug look across his face, taking a brief look at Owen's glare with a small wave before looking back to Gwen and Rose.

John took his hand off Rose's shoulder, as if not wanting to get hurt by the cousins as he glanced around the hub, half amused since last time he had been barely able to breath let anone look around. He dug his hands deep into the pockets of his suit.

Rose hugged her cousin and heard the muffled words "Where have you been!"

She laughed and released her cousin, taking a good look at her; she hadn't changed much since they were younger. "Oh, I've been out and about, seeing the world" she could imagine either Jack or John snorting but ingored it, "I just popped in to say Hi, it looks like you're busy" she raised and eyebrow at Jack and it was Gwen's turn to snicker "So I won't keep you" she ruffled Gwen's hair "Good to see you Gwen"

"You to Rosey" Gwen laughed, pulling her dark hair into place, Rose looked exactly how she'd remembered her, only slightly older and with a softer shade of blonde. "See you soon OK"

"WOuldn't miss it for the world" Rose said firmly and with a small smile turned back to John "I'm done, now you...sleep!"

Gwen laughed and moved very slowly, almost unnoticed to Jack's side.

Jack and John both couldn't hold back the fit of laughter that seemed to engulf both the men as they both almost collasped with laugher. 'That's one word for it,' Jack said with a stilfed snort, stranding up straight with a large amount of effort.

'Alright then, if you say so,' John said with a sigh, wrapping his arms around her waist softly, looking into Rose's eyes for a moment.

Jack rolled his eyes, wanting to kiss gwen next to him but knowing perfectly well they were well within the sights of the rest of the crew so he restrained himself.

Rose raised an eyebrow at the two men and rolled her eyes at Gwen who laughed softly, stroking Jacks hand with her finger, unnoticed by everyone except him. "You can talk" she heard Rose say and she smiled, her hair falling in her face.

Rose looked at Gwen with knowing eyes, "Come on" she murmured in John's ear "lets get out of here and leave them to it" she smiled as she pulled away, flicking her hair from her soft dark hazel eyes.

John grinned, nodding. 'Alright then, see you later Jack,' he said, giving him and small wave and a grin before grabbing Rose's hand and moving forward, keen to get out as soon as possible.

Jack grinned at Gwen before nodding a moving towards his office. 'By the way, here tonight,' he muttered to her as he passed, leaping with ease across the hub and dissapearing into his office yet again.

Gwen watched Rose and John go when she turned to talk to Jack he'd gone, what is it with him? The moment I try and talk he dissapears! she thought, annoyed. She cast a look at the crew and gave them a smile, though in her heart of hearts she wanted them to leave, oh well, best to make the most of it

The music played quietl in her office as she leant back in the chair and closed her eyes. She was exhausted but happy...she din't know why but this song always made her feel sad.

She could feel something growing in the back of her eyes and blocking her throat, god in heaven in wasn't going to bub was she?
