The whole building was free of any human presence as Nat moved silently in through the old glass door, her eyes drifting down the long line of cat cages as she moved over to the main office. 'Hey Sarah, I'm looking for a new pet, a cat of some sort,' she said softly to her old friend before turning and moving down the old cages, stopping at one cell to look at a small black kitten. she lent down and reached through the cage slightly, giving a small smile.

Through the back entrance walked a man carrying a cage, a terrier yapped in it, it was in a horrible state. He had just taken it from the street, it had been living in a box near his little hut for the last week, and finally he had found it. He took it where all the new animals went to be checked for any diseases and injuries, giving his hands a quick wash. He heard the voice of a customer and gazed around the corner, spotting the young lady with a smile. He quickly dried his hands and walked over to her, his brown eyes glowing.
"G'day Ma'm, How may I help you?" he asked polietly, keeping eye contact with her, hoping she didn't see him as a lesser person because he lived in a hut on the beach and that his looks made him look about sixteen. James gazed at the black kitten which she had patted, that was a very cute kitten, and had often wished he could take it home with him, but he knew it wouldnt be fair on the kitten, it wouldn't last too long where he lived, it needed a family, that loved and cared for it. The kitten let out a little mew as he turned away, waiting for the young lady's reply

Nat smiled at James, giving a small sigh as she stood back up to match his height. 'No thanks, just looking right right now,' she said brightly, taking a glance back at the kitten and making a mental note to come and check ehr again before leaving. Nat looked around the shelter softly, remembering when she used to work here when training to become a vet which she had never quite done but now had the best job she could think of.

James nodded, gazing away at the other animals in the shelter for a bit before thinking that he might start some sort of conversation with this person, he hadn't anything to do for a while. Holding out his hand in a friendly gesture, "I'm James by the way" he said gently, a small smile on his face. The sound of the terrier in the back room sent a shiver down his spine, he enjoyed his job working with animals....but not when the animal comes in a state like that....he was beginning to think it was going to be destroyed. Shaking his mop of hair, he cleared his head, and took eye contact with the customer again
