Gwen unlocked her car and walked to the door of her house. It was bigger than the one she had shared with Rhys, after he'd died she'd moved out, and Torchwood payed very well. She fumbled in her bag to find her keys and sucseeded. She unlocke her home and let out a sigh of relief as she entered, not bothering to remove her shoes. She left the door open for Jack and wandered over to the drinks cabinet in her kitchen, "What would you like?" she asked, referring to the drinks but her heart pounding slightly. It all seemed so personal, for god's sake Gwen! It's just a drink between friends! she felt a shiver run up her spine as the door closed and she turned around, dark hair flowing back, and smiled.

Jack walzed inside after her, closing the front door as he burried his hands in his pockets and looked around with a smile. 'Whatever your having,' he said simply, smiling softly as he moved over to her. He looked at her for a moment before across the room at the wall. 'Blimey Jack, keep it together, it's just a friendship thing, nothing more.' He shook his head to clear his wandering thoughts before glancing back at gwen.

Gwen smiled "Well if you weren't here it would be something much stronger, how about a beer?" she looked around her home, nothing fancy, just the bare essentials; drink counted as esential nowadays. Her shoulders sagged but she brought them back up again in a milisecond. He looks so great this evening...

Jack grinned but noticed her move, even the smallest and smiled softly. 'Sounds fine to me,' he said, glancing out one of the nearest windows before back at Gwen. 'You alright Gwen?' he asked gently, his blue eyes resting on her softly as he looked conserned but really, all he could think about was how beautiful she was. 'Jack, pay attention, your the last person she would be remotly intrested in so drop it right now.'

"yeah I'm fine" Gwen ran a hand through her hair "Just tired, work gets to you, especially what we do" she never talked to anyone about Torchwood before, she couldn't. She handed him his drink and took a sip from hers. She sat down on the sofa, "Please, sit down" she asked him, a strand of hair falling infront of her dark brown eyes.

Jack grinned, nodding in agreement as he moved silently over next to her with a small sigh. Yeah, really does get to you at times,' he sighed, ruffling his brown hair with his fingers slightly before looking at Gwen. 'You sure you're alright,' he said softly, glancing around the room quickly.

Gwen couldn't look into his blue eyes as she knew her strength would fail her and she would either kiss him or break down, she only placed a hand on his knee. "I'm fine Jack" she said as quietly as was audiable, hiding the uncertainty very well from her voice and not allowing it to waver at all.

Jack could tell that she wasn't alright and knowing perfectly well that he was going to end up doing something rash sometime that evening, he put a hand under her chin and lifted her head up to his. 'No your not, I can tell. Gwen, there is no point holding your pain inside, it just grows worse. Beleive me, I know from experience,' he said softly, using his spare hand to put over hers, watching her with soft eyes.

Gwen just closed her eyes, she didn't say anything at all. Her dark hair fell partically infront of her face and her mind was in turmoil. She knew if she opened her eyes she'd kiss him and that would be the end of their friendship, if she closed her eyes she could pretend it was someone else.

Jack looked at her softly, rubbing his thumb softly against her cheek as he struggled to keep his posture and hold back from kissing her. Jack glanced away for a moment before brushing her hair behind her ear and without a thought to stop himself, kissed her softly on the lips before realising and pulling away.

Gwen's eyes fluttered open and they sparkled with tears. She leant over and pulled him back, she kissed him, properly this time. When she broke away the butterfly fluttered from her chest with a sigh and was replaced by the steady ongoing beat of her tired heart.
Well, she thought what do we do now?

Jack was dead surprise as she kissed him and just gapped at her for a moment before gulping and shaking his head slightly. 'Alright then,' he said softly, still shocked as he moved his hand from her face and grabbed her hand that was on his knee with both hands, still liking at her.

Gwen kept his gaze, her eyes saying she hadn't regretted it at all...but she was slightly embarrassed. She didn't want to say she wanted to do it again. "That was..." she said after a while, trailing off. She was unable to finnish her amazed and slightly dazed sentance. She tucked her hair behind an ear self contiously.

Jack was still dazed as he looked at her, blinking quickly. 'Yeah, That's one word for it,' he said softly, quite embarrassed now as he glanced away, unable to keep eye contact with her. Kissing her was a mistake, he would have to try harder to keep his love for her strictly inside.

Gwen's stomach plummeted like a stone, he regretted it. She stood up very quickly and walked into the kitchen to compose herself. She leant against the counter and took deep breaths one, two three...easy Gwen. Her head spun for a moment but eventually everything came back into foccus once more. Jesus, talk about look before you leap she poured heself a glass of a icy water and downed it, shuddering as it gripped her chest like an icy fist, nothing like something cold to get your mind going...once Jack had gone she'd have somthing stronger. She eventually walked back to the living room and leant against the doorframe, once again unable to meet his gaze for fear of what she might see there, or what he could see in her eyes.
